- howcooked.dev is a joke self-assessment tool where software developers rate how replaced by AI they feel on a scale from 0 to 10. Votes are aggregated into a live distribution chart and a mean called the Collective Dread Index.
- Who can vote on howcooked.dev?
- Anyone with a GitHub account. Signing in with GitHub is required so that each vote comes from a real developer account, and each account gets exactly one vote. You can change your score at any time.
- What does the Collective Dread Index mean?
- The Collective Dread Index is the mean of every score submitted, from 0 to 10. A 0 means a developer feels completely safe from AI replacement; a 10 means they feel entirely replaced. It is a measure of sentiment, not of actual job risk.
- What data does howcooked.dev store?
- Only a GitHub account id, the public GitHub username, and the score from 0 to 10. No email address, no repository access, and no other profile data is stored.
- Is howcooked.dev a serious study of AI replacing developers?
- No. It is a comedy site. The scores are self-reported feelings from a self-selecting audience, so the results describe developer anxiety rather than measured labour-market outcomes.
